Using the School Scanner

How to scan a picture to a file (i.e., your space on the school's server)

  1. Place your picture on the glass window in the scanner (upper right hand corner), then press the green button located on the front of the scanner.

  2. A dialog box will appear. Select HP Precision Scan, then select "Image File" or "Text and Image File" as the destination in the "Scan To" dropdown list.

  3. You will want to check "Select parts of page or View first" if you want to see your image before saving it to your folder. If any of the images you want are in color, select the "Scan in Color" checkbox

  4. Click "Scan"

  5. If the photo shown in the Viewer is what you want, click "Accept"

  6. In the "Save As" dialog box, type a name for the file, making sure that you save it to the folder "My Photos" that you have created on your school server space.

  7. The scanner will probably select your file format, but some of the more common are "TIF", "BMP", "JPG", or "GIF" (just in case you need to select a format). If you are not sure what format to use when scanning a picture, read this document.

  8. Click OK

Your photo should now be saved to your folder. You can insert it into a Word document following the instructions given to you, or you can go to this page and read "To add a picture" for those instructions.
