For Teens

Teen Reads.com   This site hosts book reviews for teachers and teen readers alike. The reviews are displayed with author and publisher information and are often complete with a link to an interview or biography on the author.

San Jose Library- Teen Reading Lists   A list of books by genre (Adventure stories, animal stories, ghosts, etc.)

Mid-Continent Public Library- Teen Reading Lists   List titles by broad subject, and then by author.

Young Adult Library Services Association- Booklists and Book Awards   Lists recommended books from the Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association. Includes lists from past years.

Teen Link  New York Public Library's teen page with booklists, teen writings, and links to other teen-oriented sites.

Reading Rants! Out of the Ordinary Teen Booklists    Created and maintained by a Young Adult Librarian at the Queens Borough Public Library, this site has unusual lists of books for teens looking for something out of the ordinary.

American Library Association- Literary & Related Awards    The Newbery Medal, named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery, is given annually to the author of an exceptional contribution to children's literature. The Caldecott Medal, named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott, is awarded each year to the illustrator of an outstanding picture book. Both are bestowed by a division of the American Library Association. This ALA site features links to many of the award winning lists.

Oprah's Book Club : Kids Reading List   Offers suggestions for different ages, as well as Oprah's favorites. You choose the age range that you want to search.

ReadThisNow   ReadThisNow is a live online readers' advice service provided free of charge for the citizens of Ohio by the State Library of Ohio and your local public library. Professional librarians are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer your reference questions and assist you in finding information.

NoveList   This online database helps you locate new fiction books based on books you have read or topics in which you are interested. Search for books by title, author or by simply describing a book you would like to read. Great way to find out the titles in your favorite series, too!

 

For Kids    

Scholastic's Summer Reading Buzz  Sign up and you can start an online reading log to help give books to kids in need. Plus, you can enter to win cool prizes, test your wits with book quizzes, find tons of printable fun, and more!

INFOhio-Books and Reading   Links to several sites to encourage readers in your family, including e-books, author sites, practice in reading and writing, reading lists and more.

Book Hive   From the Public Library of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, comes Zinger the book-reviewing bee who says "Welcome to the BookHive! We have been as busy as bees reviewing a hive-full of children's books for you to enjoy." Books reviews for kids up to age twelve are written by librarians and categorized into twenty topics including African-American, Beginning Chapter Books, Classics, Fantasy, Historical and Scary Fiction. Zinger promises at least twelve new reviews every month.

Bookworm: Great books for kids 6-12   Bookworm is chock full of book reviews, reading lists, author interviews, and author mailing addresses (some email, some street). In addition to coverage on popular series books for a variety of reading levels (such as Madeline and Redwall), Bookworm organizes its reviews by genre and reading level. Mysteries, Gardening, and Math are just a sample of the more than sixty reading lists. Teens have their own version of the site at TeenReads.com.

Just for kids who love books   Here you can find out about your favorite authors (like Roald Dahl), favorite titles and favorite series (like Bailey School Kids)." Canadian librarian Alan Brown collects book reviews written by kids (like you) and posts them once a month.

Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN)- OH! Kids   OH! Kids is an area of the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN) website intended for kids 11 years of age and younger. There are four sections of OH! Kids:  WebTots (under 6 and their parents); WebKids (ages 6-9); WebTweens (ages 9-11); Homework Help (all ages).

National Education Association :  Kids' top 100 books  This list was tabulated from an online survey that ran at this web site from November 1, 1999 through February 1, 2000. The results leave no doubt that America's kids LOVE to read. You might want to compare this with Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children.

Reading Rainbow   Includes books that have been reviewed on the popular PBS program.

Reading Rockets- Launching Young Readers   Reading Rockets aims to inform and inspire parents, teachers, childcare providers, administrators, and others who touch the life of a child by providing accurate, accessible information on how to teach kids to read and help those who struggle. At this site, they have highlighted great books and authors
