Link to the Public Library Research Databases From Home

The resources that you can access from your home computer are not just limited to those available from your school web page. With a public library card, you can conveniently access an even greater list of resources from your home computer. There are several ways that you can achieve this:

Harris-Elmore Public Library

If your library card is from the Harris-Elmore Public Library, you can access their homepage at http://library.norweld.lib.oh.us/Harris-Elmore/.  You will find the Research Databases when you scroll down on the page to Access OPLIN for Research Databases, and follow that link.

When you get to the OPLIN web page, click on the "Services" tab. You will see a link on this page to "Research Databases".  If you are accessing the database from home, you might need to sign in with your library card and then choose your library’s name from the pull-down box.  At this point you can search your topic by category, search it in an individual database (find the database you want in the alphabetical list), or search your topic among multiple databases. You can also go directly to the Research Databases at http://www.oplin.org/databases/ or http://ohioweblibrary.org/.

The current crop of OPLIN databases found under the Research Databases topic on the OPLIN website include:

The OPLIN website has built-in remote patron authentication for all libraries.

Toledo Lucas County Public Library

If your library card is from the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, you can access their homepage at http://www.toledolibrary.org/. You will find the Research Databases under the button at the top labeled "Research". Then select "Database Search A to Z". You will need to enter your barcode and PIN to access any of the Library’s databases. Your barcode can be found on your library card, and the default PIN in your account will be the last four digits of the phone number that the Library has on file for you. Some of these sites are only accessible from computers located within a Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, while others may be only available to registered Library Card holders.

You may find your answer to other questions by visiting the Frequently Asked Questions page for the library.

Ohio Public Library Information Network

The Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN) is available at http://www.oplin.org. It ensures that all Ohio residents have fast, free public Internet access throughout the state, as well as the use of high-quality research databases not freely available on the World Wide Web. OPLIN purchases subscription databases and makes them available to all Ohio public library cardholders, either through use in an Ohio public library, or through Remote Access authentication. These databases can be accessed only from within a public library building or by Ohio residents with an Ohio public library card. If you are uncertain where to find your nearest public library, please check the location in the Find A Library database.
