Speech Therapy-Who Needs It?
Poor speech and language skills can have an effect on all area's of a student's learning:

*Decoding/Reading new words
*Spelling
*Using listening skills
*Learning and using vocabulary *Understanding and following verbal information and directions
*Speech sound production
*Social language
*Fluent Oral Reading and                       Conversational skills.


Weaknesses in any of these areas can impact classroom performance in all academic areas.

AGES AND STAGES

 

Children at 36 months of age should:

Recite a familiar nursery rhyme

Ask “wh” questions: what, why and when

Have an expressive vocabulary of 800 words.

 

Children at 48 months of age should:

Use feeling words for emotion (happy, sad)

Use prepositions: over, under, above, etc.

Use expressive vocabulary of 1400 words.

 

Children at 60 months of age should:

Have a 3-turn conversation

Use possessives such as mine, yours

Have an expressive vocabulary of 2000

words
